Working with MSConfig:

    - Microsoft System Configuration Utility

    - Hidden tool in windows that allows you edit your startup routine

    - Ties up system resources by starting programs you might not use, thus slowing down your system

Reasons to Edit your Startup:

    - Make windows boot

    - Identify Rogue Programs

To Access MSConfig:

    - Go to Start

    - Click on Run

    - Type in 'msconfig'

    - Press Enter

    - Click Startup Tab

    - Deselect Programs you don't wish to startup

    - Click Apply

    - Then OK

    - Restart your Computer

Registry - It keeps track of all your values of programs that are installed, what they do, and how they interact with windows.

How to enter the Registry:

  1. Go to Start
  2. Click on Run
  3. Type in 'regedit' (Windows Registry Editor)
  4. Press Enter
  5. Choose-- either 64-Bit or 128-Bit encryption
  6. Follow the location of the program or item to remove in the registry editor
  7. Click the registry entry and click delete
  8. It will no longer work or launch

If you're not sure what something is starting up research it prior to taking any action

    - Go to http://www.google.com

    - Type the service / program in question

    - Click search

    - Normally the first result will be relevant to your problem

    - OR

    - Go to http://www.tasklist.org

Windows System Restore:

    - Go to Start

    - All Programs

    - Accessories

    - System Tools

    - System Restore

- You must have a restore point to restore to; if you have no restore point you can't go back
